Rigmarole Greek Ouzo

For this project, we had to design a liquor label inspired by a part of our identity. I love to knit and embroider, and I am a fan of both writing and reading long, rambling stories, which are also known as yarns, or rigmaroles. This pun was the starting point for Rigmarole Greek Ouzo. Ouzo might have been an unconventional choice, but it’s a drink I really like.

I wanted to have the yarn and needle motif as a major part of my design from the
start, without it being the focus, and decided to have the yarn tying together the main ingredients of ouzo: grape and anise. While I was still figuring out my illustration, I decided to have the yarn and needle interacting with my logo mark to literally tie the entire design together, and hand lettered the logo mark to make it work.

Because my final design needed a white background to make my illustration and logo mark stand out, I picked a green bottle to match the grapes and Greek key design of the label. Initially, I had hoped to have gold and silver foil on the label for some extra oomph, but didn't have the resources to make it work, and instead used a subtle effect on the anise shape and logo mark to give it some depth.
